As you enter through the gates of Saigon Kids Early Learning Centre, you immediately notice something unique in the busy city of Saigon. Serene, calm and green, our outdoor environment welcomes children, staff, families, and visitors to this amazing space. A stretch of green grass, surrounded by trees, a pebble sided sandpit, a sensory garden, and an art studio enclosed in our separate bamboo garden, all enable children to experience unique learning experiences within a beautiful natural setting.
Our natural space is inviting, engaging and spacious. It invites open ended play and discovery, inspires curiosity, and promotes development and learning in ways often unique to the outdoors. This includes opportunities for active physical play, and for encounters with the natural world of plants, water, sand, rocks, garden creatures, air, light and shadow. Importantly, our outdoor experiences provide contexts for connecting children with nature, teaching environmental awareness, and learning how to live with respect for the world we share.
When planning for learning in our outdoor environment, teachers take great care to provide a balance of quiet and active spaces for play, as well as offering children the choice to engage in independent or small group play. Within this safe and exciting learning environment, children have varying opportunities to explore their interests, interact with others, manipulate materials, try new experiences, learn new skills, invent, create, problem solve……and to ‘just be’.
